Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the harsh conditions of the winter season, displaced families, orphans, and vulnerable households continue to face severe challenges due to the lack of basic necessities such as heating, food, and safe shelter.
In response, Horizon Foundation for Development, with generous funding from MCUK, has launched the first phase of its Winter Assistance Project in Taiz Governorate, targeting internally displaced persons, orphans, and impoverished families.
Approximately 1,400 individuals benefited from this phase of the project. The distributed assistance included:
• Mattresses
• Winter blankets
• Winter clothing
• Gas cylinders
• Food baskets
The project aims to alleviate winter-related hardships, reduce health risks associated with cold weather, enhance food security, and improve living conditions for the most vulnerable groups.
This humanitarian intervention is part of Horizon Foundation for Development’s ongoing efforts to respond to urgent needs, support conflict-affected communities, and strengthen their resilience amid Yemen’s prolonged humanitarian crisis.
The Horizon Foundation for Development participated in a specialized training course under the CALP program titled “Core Skills for Cash and Voucher Assistance for Program Staff,” held from October 19 to 23, 2025, in the interim capital, Aden, Yemen.
The five-day course aimed to strengthen the capacities of program staff and enable them to understand and apply best practices in designing and implementing cash and voucher assistance interventions within humanitarian responses.
The training was organized in partnership with the Cash and Learning Partnership (CALP Network), the Cash Consortium of Yemen (CCY), and the Cash and Market Working Group (CMWG), with the participation of several representatives from local and international humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen.
The Horizon Foundation for Development affirmed that its participation in this course comes as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of its staff and improve its responsiveness to affected communities through the adoption of more flexible and effective mechanisms that contribute to improving livelihoods and achieving sustainable impact.
Cash and voucher assistance is considered one of the most innovative approaches in humanitarian work, as it provides beneficiaries with freedom of choice, dignity, and flexible options that meet their actual needs.
As part of its efforts to strengthen humanitarian and development partnerships—and on the sidelines of the 26th September Revolution anniversary celebration held at the Yemeni Embassy in Cairo—Dr. Yahia Kudaish, Executive Director of Horizon for Development, met with H.E. Dr. Khaled Bahah, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
During the meeting, Dr. Kudaish presented a brief overview of the organization’s key humanitarian and development activities targeting the most vulnerable groups both inside Yemen and abroad. He confirmed the organization’s intention to open an official office in Egypt to provide support to Yemeni patients, people with disabilities, and students residing in Egypt.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Khaled Bahah welcomed the initiative and agreed to set a future date to discuss the detailed arrangements for opening the office, reflecting the ambassador’s and the embassy’s commitment to supporting impactful civil society organizations.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Maryam Al-Doghani, Head of the Technical Team for Relief and International Cooperation at the Office of the Presidency of Yemen, underscoring the Presidency’s support for development and humanitarian efforts led by Yemeni institutions.
Horizon for Development extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to H.E. Dr. Khaled Bahah for his warm reception, constructive collaboration, and support for humanitarian efforts beyond Yemen’s borders.
It is worth noting that Horizon for Development officially opened its office in the United Kingdom last month, marking a strategic step toward international expansion and building effective partnerships that serve humanitarian causes.
Amid the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Yemen—particularly in Taiz Governorate—Horizon for Development has implemented 22 livelihood support projects targeting the most vulnerable groups, including displaced families and those in need, as part of its continuous efforts in economic empowerment and resilience-building.
This initiative brings hope and dignity to dozens of families by enabling them to launch their own sustainable small businesses, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributing to poverty reduction and self-sufficiency.
